<p>Mangaluru: From Miniature Pinscher, Shih Tzu to Caravan Hound, Chihuahua, Belgian Malinois, Akita, Maltese, the dog show held at Kadri Park in Mangaluru on Sunday saw 151 dogs of over 20 breeds. </p><p>Canine aficionados from various parts of Dakshina Kannada district and neighbouring district like Kodagu, Kasargod and Udupi had descended to the city for the show organised by the Zilla Panchayat and Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, as a part of the ongoing Karavali Utsava. The show is being organised by the department after five years.</p><p>The canines were at their best, while the crowd were on their feet, cheering through the competitions.</p>.Dakshina Kannada MP meets Rajnath Singh, seeks Sainik School in Mangaluru.<p>Sachin Krishnappa who had come with his one year three month old Shih Tzu breed of dog said that he was participating in the competition for the first time.</p><p>Preetham who had come with his seven year old “Happy” (Rottweiler breed) said he had participated in the dog shows three to four times in the past.</p><p>Vamshi came with her three and half months old "Ivy" and "Cookie" (Maltese breed) said that both her dogs are enjoying the show.</p><p>Sukesh Shetty who came with his Caravan Hound which is four months old won the gold medal in puppy category said that his “Mia” was brought for outing for the first time and won the medal.</p><p>A five year old Toy Pom had come all the way from Kasargod with his owner Punith Kamath.</p><p>Suprabha Shetty who had come with her Chihuahua, a four year old Mexican breed, said that her pet was participating for the first time. She had recently come to Mangaluru from Thailand and the arrangements are good at the show.</p><p>Avinand Achanahally, founder of Mangaluru Horse Riding Academy had come with his Belgian Malinois, which guards horses at the Academy and won a prize. The dog was one year and four months old and is named "Samba," which is friendly, he said.</p><p>Four months old "Guddy" (Akita breed) owned by Gilbert won a second prize in the puppy category.</p><p>Participants had come with their Caravan Hound, Mudhol, Chippiparai, Mastiff, Pomeranian, Dachshund, Pit Bull, American Bully, Dalmatian , Jack Russell Terrier, Dobermann, Great Dane, Poodle, Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Basset Hound, Boxer, Pug and others to take part in the show.</p><p>Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Deputy Director Dr Arun Kumar Shetty said the dog show competitions were held in puppy category (3 to six months, six months to 1 year) and adult category (above one year – breed wise). The first prize winners from all the categories participated in the final championship round wherein cash prize of Rs 10,000, Rs 7500 and Rs 5000 along with trophy was given for the three best in show dogs.</p><p>Judges evaluated dogs based on breed standards, movements, temperaments and overall conditions. A demonstration by DK and Mangaluru commissionerate dog squad was another attraction at the event.</p>
