<p>Hosapete (Vijayanagara): South Western Railway General Manager Arvind Srivastava said that a decision will soon be taken regarding the operation of the Vijayapura-Mangaluru train (07377/07378) via the Hosapete-Kotturu route three days a week, instead of its current route via Hubballi.</p><p>He gave this assurance during his visit to the local railway station on Thursday when a delegation of the Vijayanagara Railway Development Action Committee, led by South Western Railway Users’ Consultative Committee member Babulal Jain, submitted a memorandum to him.</p><p>Due to the slow movement of trains in the Sakleshpur Ghat section, providing additional train connectivity to the coastal region is currently challenging. However, the department is ready to adjust within the existing system to meet the aspirations of the people of the Kalyana Karnataka region. The operation of the Vijayapura train via Hosapete-Kotturu three days a week will be reviewed, he said.</p><p>Babulal Jain submitted the memorandum seeking a direct train from Hosapete to the coastal region, highlighting that it would provide direct connectivity to the world heritage site Hampi and major tourist destinations like Hassan, Shravanabelagola, Belur, Halebidu, and religious centres like Kukke Subramanya and Dharmasthala. It would also connect major educational and hospital centres like Udupi and Manipal, and the port city of Mangaluru, facilitating tourism and economic activities in the coastal and Kalyana Karnataka regions.</p><p><strong>Other demands</strong></p><p>Under the Amrit Bharat scheme, the Hosapete railway station is already being developed, and two additional new platforms must be constructed. A pit line system should be established to facilitate the maintenance of passenger coaches and the commencement of new passenger trains from Hosapete. The necessary infrastructure for passengers should be provided, and a railway overpass or underpass should be constructed at Chittavadgi. A demo train service between Hosapete and Tumakuru should be started to facilitate travel from the western taluks of the district to Bengaluru, Babulal Jain emphasised.</p><p>Responding to the demands, Arvind Srivastava mentioned that the Belagavi-Hyderabad-Mangaluru train (07335/07336) and the Hubballi-Tirupati train (57401/57402) will be resumed after the Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh. Steps are being taken to upgrade the Hosapete railway station, he added.</p><p>Senior officials of the department, including Santosh Kumar Hegde, Sunil, Praveen Kumar, and Urban Development Authority former chairman Ashok Jeere, Y Yamunesh, Mahesh Kudutini, G Devareddy and J Varun were present on the occasion.</p>
