He was speaking after inaugurating Wildlife Lovers’ Meet at Kuvempu University in Shimoga on Saturday.
Bhadra forest is house to several rare species of wildlife and to protect them it should be declared as reserve forest, the cricketer said.
A plan should be prepared to protect the wildlife. General public as well as NGOs should extend their cooperation in this regard, he said.
Western Ghat Task Force Chairman Ananth Hegde Ashisar said experts and public are consulted with regard to protecting the Western Ghat and 1,000 personnel have been appointed for the protection of forests. A photo competition and exhibition on wildlife was also organised on the occasion.
