<p>Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has recalled 1993-batch IPS officer R Ramachandra Rao from compulsory leave and posted him as the Director General of Police, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement. </p><p>An order to this effect was issued on Monday. </p>.Gold smuggling case: Ranya Rao, two accomplices to remain in jail for at least a year.<p>The post of DGP, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, has been declared equivalent in status and responsibilities to the cadre post of DGP, Criminal Investigation Department, Special Units and Economic Offences. </p><p>Rao, who is due to retire in May 2026, was sent on compulsory leave in May 2025 after his step-daughter Ranya was arrested at the Kempegowda International Airport, allegedly with Rs 12.56 crore worth of unaccounted-for gold bars. The 34-year-old actress was accused of smuggling gold from Dubai by using special privileges accorded to family members of senior IPS officers. </p><p>A government inquiry committee also questioned Rao, who was serving as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation at the time.</p>
