District administration urged to check 'illegal' stone quarrying at Halseegekhan

The villagers have urged the district administration to check stone quarry which has been functioning illegally at Halseegekhan in Sathihalli gram panchayat jurisdiction.

Halseegekhan is situated on the periphery of Western Ghats with river and a reserve forest. An influential person has been carrying out quarry for M-sand for the last few days, said the villagers.

 “Due to the quarry, the quarry dust particles have entered coffee estates nearby. The river and water sources have been polluted. The use of explosives in the quarry have resulted in cracks on the walls of the houses nearby,” the villagers said.
