Speaking at the inauguration of a national workshop on ‘Emerging Trends in Vacuum Electronic Devices and Applications (VEDA-WS-2009) here, Dr Arunachalam said: “There is a need for increased research work in the field of energy transfer globally, to tide over the crisis. We should have more experiments on ways to transfer energy through a satellite, from one region to another.”

The workshop was organised on the occasion of the silver jubilee celebrations of Micro Wave Tube Research and Development Centre (MTRDC), a DRDO unit in Bangalore.
 Veteran electronic scientists Dr M D Rajnarayan, Venugopal and K N Tiwari were honoured with ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award, while senior scientist S K Dutta was awarded with ‘Best Scientist of the Lab’ award, on the occasion.
