<p>Kalaburagi: Visvesvaraya Technological University Vice-chancellor Prof Vidyashankar S has stressed the need to equip students to meet the needs of multinational companies.</p><p>Speaking after inaugurating the two-day ‘YUKTI 2025–Techno-Management & Cultural Fest’ held at the university’s Kalaburagi regional centre here on Monday, he said that information and technology companies like Infosys and Wipro require thousands of engineers.</p><p>Pointing out that these companies are complaining about not getting skilled engineers as per their standards, he said that only 300 women engineers were selected for Infosys recently though the company required 1,000 women engineers and only four people have been selected from Mysuru. He directed the engineering college principals to keep the colleges open until 10 pm to strive for improving the skill of students. </p><p>He said that a Japan-based company needs 50,000 engineers and its authorities have offered to sign an agreement with the university. In the first phase, online training will be provided to some selected students, he said.</p><p><strong>Learning Japanese</strong></p><p>“If we learn Japanese, the company will invite our students there”, he added. </p><p>“There is a proposal to conduct training activities to students 24 hours a day at the VTU main campus in Belagavi. The dormitories have been built to provide accommodation to students coming to the campus at a cost of Rs 25 per person per day. Arrangement will be made to supply meals at discounted rate if there is a demand for it. Therefore, all engineering colleges in the state should be opened for the purpose of providing training to students at least till 10 pm. A circular will be issued soon in this regard”, he explained. </p><p>Stating that the university is doing good work despite the shortage of staff, he said that it has received five awards from a press organisation recently. “VTU is making achievements which no Indian Institute of Technology has done. We are also paying good salary to the guest lecturers. VTU used to give results within three hours of conducting examination. Now, there is a plan to give results within one hour”, he said. </p><p>Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence Vice-Chancellor Prof Srikanta Murthy K said, there are a lot of developments happening in the field of engineering nowadays and the students will get good job opportunities if they acquire skills accordingly.</p><p>“A lion can catch its prey to satiate its hunger only if it runs faster than a deer. A deer can escape and stay alive only if it runs faster than a lion. Similarly, we have to keep running to get good opportunities in our lives”, he opined.</p><p>Earlier, VTU In-charge Regional Director Dr B Shambhu Lingappa said that competitions will be held in 21 categories in this two-day festival. Students from engineering colleges from various districts have participated.</p><p>VTU Governing Council member Dilip Krishna, YUKTI Utsav chief coordinator Ambarish Bhadrashetty and coordinator Manith P D were on the stage.</p>
