Karnataka state retired vice-chancellors forum on Wednesday suggested Higher education minister G T Devegowda to consider using services of its members for the all-round development of higher education.

The suggestion came during a meeting chaired by the minister here. The forum demanded that there should be transparency in the appointments to various posts, from Syndicate members to vice-chancellors.

They urged the minister to conduct a national-level conference to address contemporary problems faced by universities and higher education. The importance of creating a welfare fund for universities was also discussed at the meeting.

Devegowda promised to look into the issue and said he would welcome any suggestion for the welfare of students.

The forum suggested the minister to form the higher education and research council, in place of the higher education council.
