<p>Kalaburagi: The festival of colour was celebrated with much gaiety in Kalaburagi City and other parts of the district on Friday.</p><p>The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring and end of winter. Thousands of youths enjoyed applying colours on each other, and danced to the tunes of songs. Security arrangements were made by the police as precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incidents.</p><p>Irrespective of age and cutting across religion, people hit the streets at the crack of dawn and celebrated the festival by dancing to the drumbeats and smearing colours on each other. Whistling, cheering and drenching each other in colours, youngsters had fun. People distributed sweets in different areas.</p><p>The festive atmosphere prevailed in every household as people were drenched in Holi colours. The idols of Kamanna and Rati were installed in various places in the City. Kamanna’s effigies were burnt after religious rituals performed by the people. People gathered in large numbers and sprayed colours mixed with water and distributed sweets.</p><p>They met in parks and streets all over the City, bombarding dry-coloured powder or with water guns and water balloons filled with coloured water at each other. They danced in raptures at various places. All the schools, colleges, government offices and other business establishments were closed. Students celebrated Holi by visiting the houses of their classmates and distributing sweets. Government hostels and residential schools were soaked with colour during the celebration.</p><p>Pot-breaking competitions were organised in several areas and teams of youths enthusiastically participated in the competition. </p><p>Bank officials and employees of Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation also celebrated Holi in their respective offices. The festival of colour was celebrated in a special manner in Koranti Thanda, Green Park area and other Tandas. People of the Tandas wore traditional dress and performed dances. </p><p>People also played drums and DJ systems in some locations. Roads were soaked in different colours. The celebration continued till 2 pm. Youths, including girls, celebrated the festival by applying colours to the passers-by. Children, who bought colour and guns were seen spraying colours at the passers-by. Several streets including the Court Road, Sharnbasveshwar Temple, Railway Station Road, Jagat Circle, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Circle, Ram Mandir, Super Market, Old Bus Stand Road, Old and New Jewargi Roads, Aland Chowk and others were filled with Holi revellers.</p>
