<p>Hubballi: Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre’s home taluk Bhalki in Bidar district will soon house Karnataka’s first government-run aviary.</p>.<p>Forest Department officials recently made a spot inspection of Khanapur village in this regard.</p>.<p>The proposal is to build an aviary on one acre of forest land next to Sri Shiva Mailar Mallanna Temple.</p>.<p>A detailed project report in this regard is underway.</p>.Implement two-stage inspection system to prevent plastic entering forests: Minister Eshwar Khandre.<p>The zoo authorities are expected to spend Rs 5 crore to Rs 7 crore to house exotic birds and later develop it to house other species of birds.</p>.<p>Speaking to DH, Khandre said Bidar is home to several critical birds like lesser florican, bustards and migratory birds.</p>.<p>It also has diverse animal habitats.</p>.<p>“For long, Bidar and Kalyana Karnataka regions have been neglected when it comes to the conservation of nature. I wanted to bring something to the region that could create awareness among people,” he said.</p>.<p>“Initially, the aviary will be developed on one acre of land housing only exotic birds, and plans are on to utilise the remaining nine acres of forest land to house various other birds,” he said.</p>.<p>While some question the need for such an aviary in a remote village of Bidar, where footfall is very low, forest department officials say that they are hopeful of receiving a good number of visitors as the forest patch is next to several religious places.</p>.<p>“Sri Shiva Mailar Mallanna Temple attracts at least 500-1,000 devotees every day. This place can become one of the important ecotourism spots in Bidar as it is also near a Jungle Lodges and Resorts property,” said Bidar Assistant Conservator of Forest Ramesh and added that only those birds that can survive in this climate will be housed.</p>.<p>As announced in the last budget, the Karnataka Forest Department also plans to develop the forest area next to Honnakheri village as an ecotourism spot at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore.</p>.<p>This is some 2 kms from the proposed aviary.</p>
