Twelve dental students from Malaysia, Jordan and Slovakia attended a two-week summer training programme at Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS), Manipal, to get an exposure to the various aspects of dentistry as practised in India.

The training programme was organised by MCODS every year for the benefit of overseas students to get hands-on experience.

This year it started with Dr Raghu Radhakrishnan, director of International Affairs and Collaborations, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, formally inaugurating the programme. MCODS Dean Dr Keerthilatha M Pai handed over participation certificates to the students.

Dr Shashidhar Acharya, the programme coordinator, said, “It was a great learning experience for the students. They go back with newfound knowledge and experience which can influence their careers.”

The participants also had a meeting with MAHE Vice-Chancellor Dr H Vinod Bhat.

During the two-week programme, the students had exposure to the various aspects of dentistry as practised in India. They attended lectures, demonstrations and hands-on training in various cutting-edge dental procedures, like laser therapy, laminate tooth preparation, orthodontic appliance making and Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT).

They even got to see some oral conditions unique to India.
