A female leopard was captured by Forest department staff on Tuesday. Foresters had set up a trap for the big cat at Srikantanagar extension in Shravanabelagola- the temple town.

Forest officials said, that the carnivorous feline was trapped at around 1 am.

Many leopards have been sighted among the rocks of Chandragiri hill recently.

The adjacent Vindhyagiri hill, is home to the world-famous Bahubali statue which draws hundreds of visitors daily.

Last year, a mother leopard was sighted with her three cubs, amid the Chandragiri rocks.

Three leopards were captured in Chinnanathapura, Nagarakoppalu and Uthenahalli, some time ago. Locals suspect that there are three or four more on the prowl in the vicinity.

They were sighted close to the Bhadrabahu temple atop Chandragiri. These images were captured on CCTV cameras installed at the temple.

The Forest Department has set up three more traps for these leopards on the hill.
