‘Gombe Habba’ to bring smiles on faces of poor kids

Last Updated 07 October 2018, 18:56 IST

Ashwin and Vinay Reddy, students of KMC, Manipal, members of Rotary Club of Udupi-Manipal and Volunteer Services Organisation are all set to bring cheer on faces of less privileged children through ‘Gombe Habba’ (doll festival).

“People may donate new or used toys and dolls which are in good condition. These dolls will be displayed for public viewing at KMC during Dasara. The dolls and toys will be handed over to anganwadi centres, orphanages and special schools,” they said.

The public can donate dolls at 11 places identified in Udupi and Manipal. The donation will be accepted till October 8.

Ashwin, elaborating on how the thought of collecting dolls grew in his mind, said: “The dolls are the first friend of a child, who converses with the dolls which help the child to overcome loneliness as well.”

“As poor children rarely get to play with toys, we, with the help of Rotary Club Udupi-Manipal, decided to collect toys and distribute them among the poor kids,” said Ashwin.

The toys collected will be exhibited during Navaratri celebrations at KMC, Manipal, to introduce the culture of exhibiting Dasara dolls among the people of Udupi. For details, those interested can contact 8197210187 and 8867105324.
