Governor hints at stepping down

Stating that he was “worried over the changing scenario in the nation,” Governor H R Bhardwaj on Friday hinted that he would step down from his post.

Replying to media queries on his take on the legislators’ foreign junket, Bhardwaj said, “The situation is such that nobody is listening, and the governors have become irrelevant. They have to struggle for their position. I would like to withdraw.”

 “As the legislators are bound by law, it would be wise to go on a tour in bilateral agreement, after receiving invitation from the authorities concerned of other nations. It’s the prerogative of the Speaker of the Assembly to decide on such issues.”

He added that while he can take up the issue pertaining to the Cabinet members (ministers), he can’t do anything in the case of legislators.

Batting for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Bhardwaj asserted that he should be given sufficient time to perform and the Cabinet should work as a team under his leadership. Siddaramaiah has worked hard to reach the current position and he also enjoys the support of the people, the Governor added.
