<p>Shivamogga: MLC D S Arun accused the state government of conspiring to close down Kuvempu University (KU).</p><p>He also alleged that the Higher Education Minister M C Sudhakar had insulted the governor and the rank holders by skipping the recent annual convocation.</p><p>Addressing media persons here on Thursday, he said the university had not issued marks cards to students as a result of which they are unable to avail the benefits of the Yuva Nidhi scheme. The examination process has not been transparent and many irregularities have taken place in the university. The University has not yet paid the remuneration of evaluation to the teachers even after four months. So, they are planning to boycott the forthcoming evaluation. </p><p>“We wanted to bring such issues to the notice of the higher education minister. But the minister skipped the annual convocation,” Arun lamented.</p><p>Urging the university registrar not to play with students’ future, the MLC questioned, “How many times have you met the chief minister and the higher education minister? What steps have you taken to check corruption in the university?”</p><p><strong>‘Justify absence’</strong></p><p>Referring to the convocation, he asked the higher education minister to justify his absence. “Did he miss the convocation due to the governor’s presence? The minister skipped last year’s convocation also. Even the agriculture minister skipped the convocation of the University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences held recently,” he said.</p><p>“The ministers even disrespected veteran Congress leader Kagodu Thimmappa by skipping both the convocations in which Kagodu was conferred honorary doctorates,” he opined.</p><p>Arun also noted that the university availed services of an event management company to hold the convocation and this escalated the expenses.</p><p>He opined that the government’s move to appoint the chief minister as the chancellor of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj Department was not fair. The Centre will soon implement guidelines for the appointment of vice-chancellors.</p>
