Demanding rehabilitation facilities for those who have lost their houses in natural calamities, Haleri villagers staged a protest in front of the DC’s office in Madikeri on Monday.

Village leader Biddappa said, “Five houses were completely damaged at Haleri in Kedakal Gram Panchayat following heavy rain and landslides. As many as 60 families in the village are in distress. However, authorities have failed to distribute compensation to the affected.”

Haleri village is situated on the other side of Hemmathalu, Meghathalu and Tantipala hilly ranges. The hilly range has developed cracks and there are possibilities of further landslides if the region experiences rainfall, said Biddappa.

The protesters accused officials of not visiting them to take note of their distress. The said that Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya should visit the village to assess the plight of the residents.
