Have received assurance from Centre that Kannada will be taught as compulsory subject in state schools: KDA chief

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has also assured the delegation that the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada (CESCK) at Mysuru will have a separate campus soon.

New Delhi: Kannada Development Authority (KDA) chairman Purushothama Bilimale on Tuesday said that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan assured us to instruct all central syllabus teaching schools in Karnataka to teach Kannada as compulsory subjects.

A delegation of Kannada writers and activists led by Bilimale met the Union Minister here.

“ Pradhan assured us to give directions to concerned authorities to ensure all central syllabus teaching schools in Karnataka including CBSC and ICSE must teach Kannada as a compulsory subject. Pradhan also said that learning local languages is important,” Bilimale said in a statement.

The Union Minister also assured the delegation that the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada (CESCK) at Mysuru will have a separate campus soon. At present it is functioning in the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) at Mysuru.

The Minister also assured us to release more funds to the CESCK to take up more activities including research on Kannada language, Bilimale said.
