HC acquits five of notorious Dandupalya gang

The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday acquitted five members of the notorious Dandupalya gang on the grounds that there was no evidence to prove the alleged offences.

The gang members namely Krishna, Timma, Venkataramana, Dodda Hanuma and Munikrishna; were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a lower court for the murder of Vedamurthy (19) in 1999.

Murthy was a first-year computer science student and a resident of HRBR Layout in Banaswadi police limits. The student was suffering from fever and was home alone. His parents C Anand and Mangala were at work. They returned to find their son dead, his throat slit, cash and jewellery missing.
