<p>Hubballi: After a contract cleaning worker awaiting direct recruitment breathed her last, Dharwad District SC/ST Pourakarmikara Noukarara Sangha members staged a protest along with her body on the premises of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) central office in the City on Thursday. The protesters alleged that the authorities are delaying the process of direct recruitment of contract Pourakarmikas (PKs).</p><p>Protesters led by the Sangha president Vijay Guntral charged that the process of direct recruitment is delayed by eight years, while the name of the deceased Manjula Kabbin of Gollar Oni was also in the final selection list for direct recruitment. They demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation for her family and also recruit her daughter as a permanent Pourakarmika.</p><p>“Even after several protests, assurance given to complete the direct recruitment process has not been fulfilled. Though unnecessary, the candidates were asked to give Sindhutva certificate. This has created serious trouble for cleaning workers, while some of them have already passed away,” Guntral said.</p><p>Mayor Ramappa (Ramanna) Badiger and HDMC Commissioner Rudresh Ghali met the protesters. Ghali gave an assurance in writing that steps would be taken to issue appointment letters to 127 selected for direct recruitment of Pourakarmikas in 10 days as per rules and government orders, while the selection list was announced on January 30.</p><p>He also assured that the demand to consider Manjula’s daughter for the direct recruitment would be placed before the general body meeting of the HDMC. Steps would be taken as per the government orders and circulars, he added.</p><p>Mayor Badiger handed over Rs 10 lakh compensation cheque to the daughter of the deceased.</p>
