Heavy rains, lightning leave two dead, four injured

Heavy rains, thunder and lightning wreaked havoc in parts of North, Central and Coastal Karnataka on Friday.

Two people were killed and several others were injured in Kalaburagi district, while two boys were injured in Uttara Kannada district in separate rain related incidents.

Jayamma Mallesh Eedalayi was struck dead by lightning, while Bhimanibai Lakshman Chinna Rathod and Kheeribai Tulasiram suffered burns at Chikkalingadalli village in Chincholi taluk. The duo have been admitted to taluk hospital in Chandapur in Chincholi town. They were returning home from a field when the incident occurred.

Dayanand Poojary (28) was killed in lightning strike when he was working at a field in Kalaburagi taluk.

Shashank Naik (17) and Sandeep Krishna Naik (14) suffered burns after lightning struck them at Kadakeri village in Siddapur taluk, Uttara Kannada district. A portion of their house was also burnt in the incident. The two boys are being treated at the taluk office.

Sirsi, Siddapur and many parts of upper ghat received good spell of rains. Karwar town and surrounding areas too received heavy rains.

Heavy rains lashed Hubballi and Dharwad disrupting routine life. Several roads were waterlogged, while markets were flooded with rainwater.

Belagavi city and many parts of the district received mild to moderate rains.

The City witnessed light drizzle in the afternoon hours. Heavy rains lashed Hirebagewadi, Raibag, Khanapur and surrounding areas in Belagavi taluk.

Rains disrupted power supply at Kittur. A part of a temple was damaged by the lightning on Thursday night.

Shivamogga city received heavy rains for about 30 minutes. A tractor was damaged after a huge tree fell on it due to strong wind at Alkola on Sagara road. Sagara, Shikaripura, Soraba, Bhadravathi, Hosanagara, Thirthahalli taluks received rains. Trees were uprooted in various parts of the district disrupting power supply.

Heavy rains lashed different parts of Dakshina Kannada district.

Subrahmanya and surrounding areas experienced heavy rains. As the storm water drain overflowed, water gushed inside bus stands at Kumaradhara, Biladwara, Kashikatte. Water also gushed inside shops at Adi Subrahmanya.
Kollamogru, Kalmakaru, Harihara, Guthigaru, Panja, Kamila, Ainakidu and other areas too experienced rain.
Mangaluru and surrounding areas too experienced shower in the evening.

Heavy rains disrupted life in Davanagere town. Many low-lying areas were submerged in rain water, while traffic flow was thrown out of gear. Roads at several bridges were completely submerged.
