<p>Heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorm lashed a few taluks of Bellary district on Tuesday night.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Sugarcane, maize, onion and other several other crops in Hoovinahadagali, Hagaribommanahalli and Hospet taluks have been extensively damaged incurring lakhs of rupees loss. <br /><br />Hagaribommanahalli, Mariyammanahalli, Hoovinahadagali, Hirehadagali, Beerabbi, Nagathibasapur, Uttangi, Itagi, Holalu, Mailar and other villages have received rainfall for more than two hours. <br /><br />A large quantity of maize spread over Mailar Road on the outskirts of Hadagali town have been completely washed out.<br /><br />Speaking with Deccan Herald, farmers K Prakash and Suresh of Hirehadagali and Doddamani Dilleppa of Beerabbi village, shared their woes. <br /><br />“We have taken loans to cultivate crops. Heavy rainfall has only dashed our hopes. With damages to such an extent, we are in a pathetic situation,” they expressed. <br /><br />Meanwhile, a family of three, including an eight-year-old girl, suffered injuries when the wall of a neighbouring house collapsed on their hut due to sudden rain at Indira Colony, Udaygiri in Mysore City on Tuesday.<br /><br />The injured are Ateeq Ahmed (40), his wife Sayeeda Bhanu, (35), and their daughter Bibi Ayesha. <br /><br />The family was living in the hut abutting the backside wall of the house belonging to Meenakshi. <br /><br />The incident occurred close to midnight hours when both the families were sleeping. Police rushed the victims to KR Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. No complaint has been lodged.<br /><br />Killed by lightning<br /><br />Mallappa Erappa Neelgund alias Hurakadli (55) was struck by lightning while he had gone to the fields to clean the maize crops at Konnur village in Nargund taluk on Tuesday. <br /><br />While seeking shelter below a tree from the lashing rain, Mallappa was struck by lightning. <br /><br />The incident came tol light when his family members went in search of him in the fields, when he did not return despite dusk.<br /></p>
