<p>Hubballi: Home Minister G Parameshwara said that he would present before the Cabinet meeting the demand to drop the cases filed against farmers during their protests.</p><p>“Cabinet has to decide about withdrawal of cases, considering the pros and cons, and genuineness of the grounds,” he said recalling the government’s decision on withdrawing cases related to Old Hubballi riots.</p><p>He was responding to Navalgund MLA N H Konaraddi’s demand, during the formal inauguration of new buildings of Gokul Road, Hubballi Rural and Vidyanagar Police Stations in Hubballi on Tuesday.</p><p>Dr Parameshwara also assured to sanction an additional post of the deputy superintendent of police to the district.</p><p>Cyber crime and drug abuse are the major challenges before the police. A systematic approach having dedicated police team is being followed to curb cyber crimes. The government has declared a war against drug menace, and better awareness should be created among students. Hubballi-Dharwad and Dharwad district should be made drug abuse-free in two years, he said.</p><p>Police Department is being modernised, houses are being built for police staff, and new technology is being used to detect crimes. More than 100 new buildings for police stations will be constructed at a cost of Rs 200 crore, while new vehicles are being purchased at a cost of Rs 100 crore. Police control rooms are being strengthened with modern technology, Parameshwara added.</p><p>The minister also asked the police to be people-friendly by delivering justice to those who approach them. All those who visit police stations should not be treated as culprits, as many people come with grievances, he noted.</p><p>He also informed that Karnataka Balavikas Academy has come forward to give Rs five lakh to create awareness about the ill-effects of drug abuse, while MLC Pradeep Shettar will give Rs 10 lakh for purchasing a vehicle for the Police Department.</p><p>MLA Mahesh Tenginakai stated that police should be given free hand in crime detection, while pressure on them by politicians should be stopped. </p><p>Legislative Council Chairman Baavaraj Horatti, District In-charge Minister Santosh Lad, MLA Prasad Abbayya, Mayor Ramanna Badiger, Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu GRJ, Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar and others were present.</p><p>When the home minister visited three police stations in different parts of the City to inaugurate new buildings, vehicle users had to stand waiting for his motorcade to pass as ‘zero traffic’ was arranged for him during the movement. Traffic congestion also took place on the main road in<br>front of Vidyanagar Police Station during the function, as vehicles were parked roadside.</p><p><strong>‘No failure in maintaining law and order’</strong></p><p>Claiming that the incidents of law and order situation going out of control or police becoming helpless have not taken place in last two years, Home Minister G Parameshwara countered Union Minister Pralhad Joshi for calling him ‘inefficient, and also said, “He (Joshi) does not know my capabilities.
