<p>New Delhi: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday requested Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to approve two dedicated defence industrial corridors for the state. </p>.<p>The CM called on Singh, along with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Heavy Industries Minister M B Patil and the state’s special representative in Delhi T B Jayachandra. </p>.<p>Siddaramaiah sought that the two corridors be set up, one each in north Karnataka and south Karnataka to accelerate domestic manufacturing and strengthen India’s strategic self-reliance.</p>.<p>The CM highlighted that Karnataka already accounted for 67% of India’s aircraft and helicopter manufacturing for defence services and was home to 25% of the country’s aircraft and spacecraft industry.</p>.Rajnath Singh holds talks with Russian counterpart in Qingdao.<p>He pointed out that the north Karnataka region, particularly Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad and Vijayapura, hosted key defence manufacturers such as Balu Forge, Aequs and Walchandnagar Industries. He said another corridor at Devanahalli in Bengaluru would be suitable as several aerospace companies had already set up shop there. </p>.<p>“The proposed corridors will further cement Karnataka’s reputation as the defence capital of India,” he said in the representation to Singh.</p>.<p>Siddaramaiah urged the central government to extend support similar to that given to Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in 2018, noting that these corridors would attract more domestic and global investment, creating high-skilled jobs, and further the ‘Make in India’ mission in the defence sector.</p>.<p><strong>Air show at Dasara</strong></p><p><br>The CM requested the defence minister to help organise an air show as part of Mysuru Dasara celebrations.</p><p>Siddaramaiah told reporters after the meeting that Singh had promised that the permission for the air show would be granted.</p><p>The CM said, “We have requested for land belonging to the defence ministry in Bengaluru for three specific projects at three different locations - one for a tunnel project, another for a link road connecting the Kempegowda international airport and the third for a double-decker flyover”.</p><p>“The minister responded positively regarding these proposals,” he said. </p>
