Karnataka govt issues norms for deputation of medical officers for higher studies

Bengaluru: The government has issued guidelines for deputation of medical officers under inservice quota for higher studies and super specialty courses. 

Currently, ‘Karnataka Civil Services Rules,’ ‘Karnataka Government Service (Deputation and Study Leave for Group-A Officers) Rules, 2008,’ and ‘Karnataka Postgraduate Medical and Dental Degree and Diploma Courses Selection and Admission Regulations, 2006’ are being followed. However, due to inconsistencies, new guidelines have been issued. 

Candidates planning to pursue higher education will receive sponsorship on the fees, salary during the course and other service benefits. If they fail to receive scholarship, candidates will have to pursue with prior unpaid leave permission and their own money. 

For the candidate to be eligible for under-service quota, the candidate requires a total seven years of service completion. 

General duty medical officers (GDMOs) must have completed at least six years of rural service before becoming eligible for full-time higher education appointments under the service quota or deputation.

For scholarship and other benefits, the candidate must pursue specialties that the government is interested in appointing.

The candidates must sign a bond to work with the government for 10 years or till retirement age. 

Officers appointed for study must serve in the same clinical departments assigned for study and not be appointed elsewhere or to unrelated specialty posts during their tenure.
