Sowing has been completed in over 61.45 lakh ha this year, compared to 59.64 lakh ha in the previous year. The total coverage has been put at 103 per cent.
Terming the rainfall across the State as “satisfactory”, Yeddyurappa told media that the farming community was also happy with the amount of rainfall. As much as five lakh quintals of sowing seeds had been sold and the government had made enough arrangements to fulfil the requirement of fertilisers.
Universities in Shimoga
The government has decided to set up a Agriculture and Horticulture university in Shimoga and the matter would be finalised in the next Cabinet meeting, Yeddyurappa said.
The university would deal with research in both agriculture and horticulture crops. The government has already set up an agriculture college in Brahmavara and has released Rs five crore for infrastructure facilities in the college.
