Kodava Students’ Association donates relief materials

Kodava Students’ Association, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, is showing solidarity with the people of Kodagu district by making generous donations of relief materials.

Speaking to reporters, association advisor S P Chengappa said that a load of day-to-day materials required by the victims has been collected by the association and it will reach Kodagu by Tuesday.

“People of Dakshina Kannada have voluntarily contributed towards the cause,” he added.

“Students have been working towards raising the relief materials. The SDM Law College has given us space to keep the materials. The response from the public is good,” he said.

Blankets, bedspreads, sarees, dresses, underwears, sanitary napkins, water bottles, edible oil, medicines, rice, pulses, food packets, biscuits, masala powders have been collected by the association.

To provide rehabilitation facilities to the victims, the association will raise funds from the public. The public can contribute by donating to the association account at Corporation Bank in Kodialbail or by contacting S P Chengappa. The drive to raise fund will be held for a week, he said.

Further, a group of sexual minorities under the aegis of Navasahaja Samudaya Sangha led by Nikhil have collected relief materials to be given to victims of the flood in Kodagu.

Relief pours in

There is also a good response in the collection of relief materials by the district administration at KPT.

An official said, “Based on the requirement of the victims in Kodagu, 18 items including blankets, dresses, mosquito repellents, oil, washing soap, soaps, toothbrush, toothpaste, food grains and other materials are packed in 38 boxes and were sent to affected areas on Monday.” The collection centre will be opened for 10 days.

Cloth bank

Cloth bank in association with Rotary District 3181 has started collecting new clothes for the flood victims near Dilkush Bakery, in front of Bishop House.

The collection centre was inaugurated by Rotary district governor Rohinath. Mangaluru Bishop Rev Aloysius Paul D’Souza was also present.

The collection centre will be opened for 10 days. Later, the collected clothes will be handed over to Madikeri Rotary Club to be handed over to the victims.

Vincent D’Souza of Pinki Fashion has already donated jeans worth Rs 10,000 to the centre.
