KSRTC depot to come up in Sringeri soon

Last Updated 11 October 2010, 18:06 IST

Unfortunately, the bus depot for Sringeri has still remained as a mirage. The locals allege that elected representatives are not showing interests in getting a bus depot sanctioned to Sringeri.

“Sringeri has business ties with Shimoga and it depends on Mangalore for various other purposes. Tourists who visit Sringeri often express their desire to visit Horanadu, Dharmasthala and Udupi. Despite of repeated request for setting up a KSRTC bus depot, neither the KSRTC officials nor the MLAs have thought of solving our problems,” says auto driver Gangadhar.

However responding to the long standing demand of the locals to have a KSRTC depot at Sringeri, KSRTC Divisional Controller Naveen said that they need to take prior permission from the transport department for plying buses to any area. “With regard to starting buses to Dharmasthala, Horanadu, Kollur, Mangalore, Udupi from Sringeri, we have already submitted an application to regional authority. The work on depot at Sringeri will commence as soon as we get land in Sringeri,” Naveen said.

MLA D N Jeevraj said that the matter has already been brought to the notice of Transport Minister R Ashok. The proposal of acquiring land belonging to Forest department is with the Chief Minister. “We are also looking into the possibility of acquiring private land. The government is committed to fulfiling the demands of the people of the region,” he said.
