Speaking to presspersons during his visit to Mangalore jail here on Saturday, he said Mangalore City Corporation gave permission to high rise building next to the jail in spite of the objections filed by the jail authorities. The preliminary report showed that MCC had given permission to build four storey building. However, the proprietors have constructed more floors than permitted.
He said that he will recommend for action, only after the officials submit a detailed report on the same.
Shortage of staff
The Mangalore jail is also facing the problem of severe shortage of staff. The total sanctioned strength of staff to Mangalore jail is 40. However, there are only 21 staff at present.
The new building which is coming up in the jail premises will be completed within six months, he added.
