Mysuru: MNREGA employees stage protest, demand payment of pending 7-month salaries

"The salaries have not been released since November 2024 for the employees working on projects under the MNREGA scheme. Managing our lives and families has become extremely difficult," said Manjunath, President of the Mysuru district unit of MNREGA Employees Association.

Mysuru: Employees working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA), in Mysuru district, staged a protest, in front of the Zilla Panchayat (ZP), in Mysuru, on Monday, demanding payment of pending salaries for the past seven months.

President of the Mysuru district unit of MNREGA Employees Association Manjunath said, “The salaries have not been released since November 2024 for the employees working on projects under the MNREGA scheme. Managing our lives and families has become extremely difficult. We have submitted a memorandum to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the ZP, urging for immediate release of the salaries”.

“Due to the non-payment of our salaries, we are forced to live on borrowed money. Life has become really difficult for us. We work at the district, taluk, and grama panchayat levels, to survive without regular income. We have to pay school fees for our children, hospital expenses for our elderly parents, and manage daily expenses,” they explained to ZP CEO S Yukesh Kumar.

Honorary president of the association Lokesh, IEC coordinators, technical coordinators, MIS coordinators, technical assistant engineers, accounts assistants, BFT, Grama Kayaka Mitras, and computer operators from all taluks and Grama Panchayats were present.
