Mysuru City professor nominated to HRD NMC

The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has nominated C Manjunath, a city-based assistant professor, as the member of the National Monitoring Committee (NMC) for Education of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Persons with Disabilities.

Manjunath, a visually-challenged person, has been nominated along with three others from Karnataka — Muralidhar Naik Vorkady, Mangalore; Krishna D S, Bengaluru Rural and Sanesha B G, Bengaluru.

Manjunath, 34, a resident of Mysuru, has been a guest faculty at Maharani’s Women’s Commerce and Management College and also the University of Mysore for the last six years. He has done a PhD in Political Science from the University of Mysore.

The three-year term of the committee is effective from July 17, 2018.

The Union Minister for Human Resource Development Prakash Javedekar is the chairman, while Minister of State for Human Resource Development Dr Satya Pal Singh and Minister of State for Human Resource Development Upendra Kushwaha are members.

Speaking to DH, Manjunath said, the role of the member is to provide suggestions to the government on the educational development of the SC/ST and specially-abled children.

“The members will monitor the implementation of government schemes for them. I will recommend the establishment of a separate university for the disabled in Mysuru and stress for a tribal university in Chamarajanagar at the first meeting,” he said.
