Nigerian delegation visits Mandya

Foreign team wowed by effective Indian administrative set up

A delegation of elected representatives from Nigeria  have rated the administration in India as strong and administrative measures effective.

The team on study tour of the district, on Thursday visited the offices of Zilla Panchayat, and collated information on the local administration, panchayat raj institutions and also interacted with the ZP members.

They also visited the gram panchayat office at Ummadahalli in the taluk and interacted on the administrative set up  both with the members and officers.

Permanent secretary to the ministry of local government of Nigeria, Adamu Aliyu Ferafin, who was also the leader of the delegation said that measures taken by India to eradicate poverty and also steps to bring in economic reforms are worth emulating.

The participation of the local people in administration is also a matter of appreciation.

Interacting with the visiting delegation, Deputy Commissioner P C Jaffer explained that Indian administration is a democratic set up where centre, state and local bodies function in different levels with a common goal of delivering good administration.

The local bodies are classified on the basis of population as Zilla Panchayat, Taluk Panchayat and Grama Panchayat.

Chief executive officer J Jayaram explained about the representatives of the local bodies and its constitution and also the meetings and purpose of forming standing committees.

Dr Bhaskar Rao a representative of National Rural Development Institute from Hyderabad,  Shankarraju from State Rural Development Institute, president of ZP M T Suresh, vice-president Komala Swamy and others were present.
