Karnataka BJP president B S Yeddyurappa on Sunday dismissed as rumours that the party was trying to topple the JD(S)-Congress coalition government in the state by weaning away the disgruntled Congress MLAs.
BJP national leadership’s two-day brainstorming meeting with Karnataka leaders, including MPs and MLAs here, to discuss the preparation for Lok Sabha polls, triggered speculation that it was making strategy to topple the government.
There were also reports that the Congress was planning to counter the BJP move by luring the Opposition MLAs to its fold. The BJP meeting in the national capital was seen by some in the political circles as an attempt to keep its flock together.
The BJP meeting will continue on Monday and party national president Amit Shah is likely to address them.
“We have gathered here to just to discuss party affairs. We are not making any attempt to lure the Congress MLAs to the BJP fold. These are media speculations,” Yeddyurappa said.
He also rejected suggestions that Chikkodi-Sadalaga MLA Ganesh Hukkeri and his father Congress MP Prakash Hukkeri were planning to join the BJP.
