JOIN USThe mass marriage ceremony on Thursday was not just a matter of joy for 144 couples who were blessed with marital bliss, but also a special for three visually challenged persons. Also, the harmony between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Two couples tied nuptial knot amid the chant of vedic hymns and joy knew no bounds for them. The first couple was; Sumathi of Venkatachalapura, Nanjangud taluk in Mysore district and Siddaraju of Byadarahalli in Hunsur taluk in the district.
Both are blind by birth. Lalitha of Banave in T Narsipura taluk married Madhusudhan, a visually challenge from Saththegala in Kollegal taluk in Chamarajanagar district, setting an example for others. Lalitha though a normal person entered into wedlock with a visually challenged groom.
The ceremony also witnessed harmony of two States; Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. N Lingaraju of Sathyamangala in Karnataka- Tamil Nadu border married S Lakshmi of Kunagalli in Kollegal taluk, while Shivanna of Saththi (Satyamangala) married M Lokiya of Thiganare. Siddaraju of Balepagada married Padma of the same village and Shivakumar of Maharajanapura married Nagalambika of Jyothigowdanapura in Chamarajanagar district.
Speaking on the occasion MLC K R Mallikarjunappa said the couples should take joys and sorrows in life equally and become role models for future generations.
The bridegrooms tied mangalasutra to their respective brides in the auspicious Vrushabha lagna from 12.15 pm to 12.50 pm as priests chanted Vedic hymns, amid traditional ‘Gatti Mela’ by a nadaswaram troupe.
