Madikeri Dasara Paryaya Kavigoshti Samiti organised a parallel poets’ meet at Madikeri on Wednesday, as a mark of protest against the non-release of funds for Madikeri Dasara poets’ meet.

The poets’ meet was observed in a simple manner. No refreshments, meals or snacks were served to the guests and poets. No remuneration was paid to the poets. The programme was inaugurated by drinking of water.

Most of the poems were on the nature’s fury in Kodagu. Allaranda Vittal Nanjappa and Srinivas recited poems on the misuse of relief materials. Vighnesh Bhootanakadu recited a Tamil poem.

Poets’ meet committee president Ramesh Uttappa said that the cancelling of poets’ meet by quoting lame excuses is condemnable.

Journalists’ association president Savita Rai alleged that there is a lack of coordination in Dasara committee. On the other hand, the district administration did not pay heed to the warnings by former minister M C Nanaiah.

Writer Nagesh Kaluru said nobody can silence the poets.

Madikeri dasara poets committee general secretary M N Nasir, Kishor Rai and Anand Kodagu were present among others.
