Platinum jubilee of Independence celebrated at Shivapura

The Satyagraha Soudha at Shivapura in Maddur taluk, Mandya district, was decorated as part of Platinum Jubilee of Independence celebrations, with a number of programmes held day-long to mark the occasion.

The programme was organised at 75 monuments across the country and Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event virtually from Sabarmati Ashram, Gujarat on Friday.

Akshara Dashoha organised rangoli contest for groups and individuals. Colourful rangolis with millets on the theme of Independence, and rangoli with tri-colour were drawn in front of the Satyagraha Soudha, adding glitter to the festival.

In the morning, 75 enthusiasts demonstrated yoga on the premises. School children and youth numbering 75 took out cycle jatha on the occasion. In all, 75 people, who have achieved in various fields were felicitated on the occasion.

Most of the events have 75 in common, as Shivapura is among the 75 places identified to be part of the celebrations.

District In-charge Minister K C Narayana Gowda inaugurated the event in Maddur by spinning the charaka.

MLA D C Thammanna, Deputy Commissioner S Aswathi, MLA M Srinivas, Zilla Panchayat president Nagarathnaswamy, MLC Srikantegowda and others participated.

The events included bullock cart parade, fancy dress, police band, parade of NCC, Scouts and Guides and students, three dimensional recreation of Dandi March in flowers, exhibition of Khadi products, books exhibition, philatelic (postal stamps) exhibition, cultural programmes, planting of 75 saplings on the premises of government residential school, planting of medicinal plants and judo show by girls.
