<p>Cricketer Javagal Srinath launched the ‘Mane Manege Police’ initiative of the Police department in Mysuru city on Wednesday, to reach out to people at their doorsteps, to serve them better and more systematically. </p><p>As part of the initiative, the areas in each jurisdictional police station is divided and formed as clusters, listing out the details of houses. One beat constable will be deputed for each cluster to interact and engage with citizens, listen to their grievances, respond and make an honest effort to address their concerns, seek their suggestion, build trust and a good relationship with the public.</p><p>Home Minister G Parameshwara launched the initiative at the state-level on July 19, to promote people-friendly policing system. </p>.Four missing after fishing boat capsizes off Karnataka's Bhatkal coast.<p>Srinath said, “This initiative will reduce the gap between the police and the people and establish a strong friendly bonding. With this, people will develop a positive attitude towards the police. That will reduce the scope of those indulging in crime and thereby reduce crime rate. I developed a relationship with the police when I was secretary of the cricket association and understood their problems.”</p><p>Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar said, “The police are the custodians to protect the rights of the people. The cooperation of people is crucial for this. This initiative is meant to maintain good law and order situation to prevent crime and to establish peace and harmony among the people, and create a secure environment for people. Besides interacting and understanding the problems of people, the beat police will create awareness on crimes like cyber crime, on protection of assets, and road safety. The people can give information on any suspicious developments. We will form a group of representatives from the clusters and appoint one among them to lead. The jurisdictional police will regularly meet them and seek their suggestions / advice. We plan to give an award of ‘Best Friend of Police or Advisor of Police’.”</p><p>DCPs R N Bindu Mani and K S Sunder Raj participated. </p><p><strong>The initiative</strong></p><p>In this initiative, the beat police in-charge of the cluster will maintain a register, to record the grievances shared by the people. If they are unable to resolve an issue at their level, they will communicate it to the higher officials. They will also share the emergency contact number of 112 and the numbers of the officials of their jurisdictional police station and will encourage them to contact them any time, in case of an emergency. The police will assess the security concerns around the households and give suitable suggestions. Woman police constables will interact with women.</p><p>Woman constables would be deputed, if there are only female members in any household. They will even engage in similar ways with different places of worship, religious heads, various community heads, organisations, institutions, commercial establishments and seek their suggestion and ensure a safe and secure environment. They will pay special attention to senior citizens, single women, specially-abled persons, those suffering from health issues and other vulnerable sections. They will also identify accident black spots and take up necessary traffic reforms.</p>
