PU evaluators to stay away from work for 3 hours

Last Updated 07 April 2010, 17:43 IST

Calling on all PUC evaluators to stop evaluation work during the protest, the association has thrown its weight behind a list 18 demands placed before the Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri.

Legislators, including the Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council, Puttanna and Y A Narayanaswamy, will participate in the protest to be held at the KLE College in Bangalore. Protests will be held across the State and will be led by former education minister Basavraj Horatti in Belgaum and MLC Marithibbegowda at Mysore.

Their demands include increase in daily allowance for teachers assigned with evaluation work, increase in TA / DA and also promotion of pre-university teachers to degree colleges. Further, the teachers have also demanded that total transfers for each year be increased from 5 per cent to 25 per cent.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, members of the association said that Kageri had failed in addressing the concerns of teachers. Both teachers and MLCs belonging to the teachers’ constituency threatened to intensify their stir if the demands are not met by July.
They also accused the minister of sitting on files and reports, and demanded that he step down from his post.

Speaking in support of the teachers, legislators said the daily allowance for both PUC and SSLC evaluators has remained the same for the past three years and it was time for its revision.
