Prajna Counselling Centre, Jana Shikshana Trust, Grama Vikasa Kendra and self-help groups (SHGs) have decided to rejuvenate dried-up wells at Edurupadav under Moodshedde gram panchayat jurisdiction.

Edurupadavu is facing acute shortage of water. Jana Shikshana Trust and Prajna Counselling Centre carried out a water literacy programme in the house of Pathunhi Mohammed, a resident of the village.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Hilda Rayappan of Prajna Counselling Centre said rejuvenation of wells is the only solution to overcome water crisis. The NGOs, government should come forward to remove the silt in wells, he added.

Jana Shikshana Trust Director Sheena Shetty said water should be utilised judiciously. The excess use of groundwater should be stopped and priority should be given for conservation of water. The programmes like digging of wells, rejuvenation of old wells, rainwater harvesting systems and percolation pits should be dug to increase the groundwater table, he stated.

It was decided to rejuvenate the wells in eight individual houses and three government wells in the locality.
