A 40-year-old SDPI leader was electrocuted while attempting to tie a 10-ft wide flex at Darbe junction in Puttur on Wednesday night.
The deceased is identified as K Hamza, a resident of Kodaje village in Bantwal taluk and president of Puttur unit of SDPI.
Hamza along with two other youth was involved in tying the flex as part of the preparations to publicise the SDPI meet in the town on Friday. At around 11.30 pm, due to gusty winds the banner came in contact with live wires (transformer) nearby. Hamza, who held the metal frame of the flex, was electrocuted.
An unnatural death case under 174 code of Criminal procedure (CrPC) was registered at Puttur police station, sources said.
