'Speak Kodava to save culture'

He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Oor Namme,’ programme organised by Kodava Sahitya Academy in Kodambur village near Moornadu.

“Kodava culture can be furnished by communicating in Kodava language and wear Kodava costumes. There are lot of confusions among Kodavas owing to varieties of Kodava practices. Therefore, the Academy must conduct a study on the practices and bring out an official book which tells Kodavas what to practice and what not to,” he suggested.

Speaking on the occasion, Pandanda Somaiah opined that in the competitive era of today, one must learn as many languages as he can, but then one’s love towards the mother tongue must not fade away, he insisted.

Academy former President Bacharaniyanda Appanna presented a paper on Kodava culture, while Baduvanda Seethadevi Kariyappa presented the paper on Kodavas unity. Various cultural programmes were staged by the students and other Kodavas on the occasion.

Academy Member Ranu Annappa, former President Bacharaniyanda Appanna and President Rani Machaiah were present.
