Bengaluru: Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya on Friday sharply criticised the Congress-led state government over the sale of a prime civic amenity (CA) site in Jayanagar at what he called a "shockingly undervalued price".
.
"This 8,000 sq ft corner plot in Jayanagar 8th Block was originally allotted for a nursing home, serving our community's healthcare needs. For 45 years, from 1973 to 2018, the BDA consistently maintained this was a CA site and rejected attempts to convert it to private property. Then suddenly in 2018, they made an inexplicable U-turn, declaring it wasn't a CA site at all. More egregious is the eventual sale of this prime property,” Surya said in a long post on X (formerly Twitter).
.Tejasvi Surya promises three more trains for Yellow Line by April.
Surya referenced a DH report, stating the market value of the site stands at Rs 60 crore, with the government's own guidance value at Rs 23.2 crore. “Yet the BDA has sold it for a mere Rs 2 crore — just 10 per cent of the guidance value and less than 3 per cent of the market value. This is nothing short of daylight robbery of public land and community resources,” he said.
.
The MP demanded an immediate investigation into the sale and questioned the motives behind the decision. “We cannot allow our civic spaces to be gifted away at throwaway prices to benefit private interests."
.
The site falls under Surya’s constituency, adding weight to his call for scrutiny and accountability in the matter.
