Last Updated 07 March 2019, 18:40 IST

Udupi district is a fine example of women leading the way in all spheres of life.

The women delegation leading the administrative pyramid in the district, whether it be the Parliamentarian or the district in-charge minister or deputy commissioner are totally from diverse backgrounds.

District In-charge Minister Jayamala told DH that she was proud of the fact that women were an integral part of the administration in the district.

“The best comes out when women are in the frame of work structure,” she stressed.

Udupi Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati said the onus on every woman is to fulfill the UN’s theme for Women’s Day, “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change.”

“Personally, I feel a lot more needs to be done to empower women and ensure that they come to the mainstream of society. The government schemes need to be delivered effectively for betterment of women. There is need to take care of equity and equality and thereby ensure that the gender bias does not exist,” she said.

Udupi district Superintendent of Police Nisha James said that she was happy to be part of the delegation led by women. Instead of immersing self in negative thoughts, it is better for the women to motivate themselves and also other women to come forward, Nisha stressed.

“The negativity will only add to the failure. It is better to be optimistic and make use of opportunities,” she said and urged women to avail the benefits of government schemes, including Nirbhaya Funds.

Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Shobha Karandlaje said a woman’s strength lies in the wholehearted involvement to any task.

“Every moment a woman has to face the task of proving herself in a male world. She is criticised, back-stabbed, cheated and defamed on many occasions. Yet women should not deter and must move on against all odds,” she emphasised and added that the district would perform better with all women leading in the top positions.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Vidya Kumari feels that women can offer best in any situation as they are less likely to lose patience.

Udupi Zilla Panchayat CEO Sindhu Rupesh feels that a good coordination will help in better delivery in terms of governance. She feels there would be no major difference in terms of administration when compared to men as all are trained in a similar manner. “But some degree of betterment can be achieved,” Sindhu said. She said her motto was ‘what one feels like doing, it should be done at any cost.’

Women and Child Welfare Department Deputy Director Gracy Gonsalves says with enough opportunities it is up to the women on how to make use of them. Tourism Department Deputy Director Anitha Bhaskar said with changing times women were moving to better positions.

“It is indeed a pleasure to work with women as being a woman is a gift. The brain which works emotionally with strong outline can also deliver the best in the governance,” she declares proudly.
