Undertrial found hanging at Shivamogga central prison

Shivamogga: A 38-year-old undertrial was found hanging in his barrack at Sogane central prison here on Saturday.

The deceased identified as Basavaraj, a native of Shikaripura was working as a mines lorry driver in Ballari, was arrested by Shikaripura police on charges of murdering his wife in June third week. Since then he was lodged at the Sogane central prison. According to police, Basavaraj had murdered his wife Manjula over suspicion of infidelity on the night of June 11 before fleeing.

Basavaraj is said to have hanged himself using his trousers at barrack 42 of Sharavathy ward. The police suspect it to be a case of suicide. The body of the undertrial has been shifted to the McGann Hospital for post-mortem.

The Tunganagar police have registered a case.
