<p>Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Friday launched “Kaigarika Bhoomi,” a Geographical Information System (GIS)-based programme to manage industrial areas in the State.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Kaigarika Bhoomi enables people, especially investors, access information about existing industrial areas - like status of occupancy, availability of plots, etc. <br />Besides, the extent of land available for investors can also be obtained through the system. The system has been developed by Rolta India Limited. <br /><br />Information of any industrial area can be obtained by logging on to the official website of Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) - www.kiadb.in <br />For instance, if one wants to know about the availability of land for industrial purposes in, say, Bellary district, one needs to click on the map of Bellary available on the website. All information, including location of the available land, extent, availability of infrastructure and others will pop up. <br /><br />Principal Secretary to Industries and Commerce department K Jyotiramalingam said Kaigarika Bhoomi is a tool for collection, analysing, retrieving and managing the data, pertaining to land assets of all 136 industrial areas of, covering 40,000 acres of land of the KIADB.<br /><br />The primary objective of the programme is to bring in transparency in the day-to-day functioning of the Board and to ensure orderly development of the industrial areas. <br />It also helps attract more domestic and foreign investment, he added.<br /><br />The chief minister also launched a website for the proposed Global Investors’ Meet - II, scheduled to be held on June 7 and 8, this year. The website not only offers information about the GIM - II, but also the progress made in GIM - I, held in 2010. <br /><br />Minister for Commerce and Industries Murugesh Nirani said the department will soon launch an innovative programme to encourage youth to turn into entrepreneurs in the State. The department will involve industry bodies in implementing the programme, he added.<br /><br />Steps are also being taken to ensure availability of skilled labours to the industry in the State. The department wants to impart training to educated youth, who can be employed by reputed companies, he said.<br /></p>
