Speaking to reporters in Bangalore on Sunday, Ananthkumar said he did not find any objective in the Congress taking a padayatra to Bellary since the Government had already handed over the investigation into illegal mining to the Lokayukta. The BJP had also appealed to the Centre to ban the export of iron ore from India.

“So where is the need to take a march to Bellary? Instead, Congress leaders should march to Delhi and appeal to the Prime Minister to stop export of iron ore. Let them ask the Centre why there has been a delay in the implementation of the Hooda Commission report,” he said.

Recalling his term as the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal and Iron Ore, Ananthkumar said the recommendations on curbing illegal mining made by him and the Hooda Commission were kept pending for over six years.
“Why are they going to Bellary when their own Government is quiet about implementing the Commission report?” he questioned.
