Writer Devanuru Mahadeva, on Monday, said that Stree Shakti Sanghas (women self-help groups) in the state have turned into mere moneylending organisations and play no role in the betterment of the society.
After unveiling the bust of farmer leader late M D Nanjundaswamy, as part of the state-level farmers convention, organised by Raitha Sangha in Maddur on Monday, he said, the self-help groups for women are becoming useless.
Explaining about the style of functioning of women’s self-help groups in the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, Devanuru Mahadev said, the groups here should concentrate more on the overall development of the village and not concentrate only on money transactions. The women self-help groups should play a proactive role in the development. They should ensure quality and transparency in the works executed in their villages, he urged.
Raitha Sangha executive president Chukki Nanjundaswamy, MLA K S Puttannaiah, Raitha Sangha member K C Basavaraju and Hasiru Sene president K T Gangadhar among others were present.
