<p>Karnataka Agriculture Price Commission chairman T N Prakash Kammaradi has said that a technical workshop to frame integrated policy to promote paddy will be organised in Udupi in the first week of May. <br /><br />He said the workshop would focus on effective utilisation of land that is left fallow so as to promote paddy cultivation. <br /><br />At a meeting with officials from agriculture, horticulture department and farmers here on Monday, he said that he had urged thegovernment to frame a policy for the benefit of farmers. <br /><br />The workshop will discuss the Model Agricultural Land Leasing Act, 2016 and also the best practices followed in Kerala. <br /><br />He said that the total area under paddy cultivation in Udupi district is 1,20,000 hectare of which, 11,000 hectare has been left fallow. There is a need to discuss issues with farmers and find solutions to the problem. <br /><br />The meeting also discussed shortage of farm labourers, handing over machineries to farmer groups and compensation for the loss of crops following wild animal menace. <br /><br />The meeting also discussed cultivating fallow land on the model of Kutumbasri yojana of Kerala. <br /></p>
