<p>Prof Karunakara N of Mangalore University has been chosen by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology for Sir C V Raman Young Scientist State Award for the year 2017.</p>.<p class="bodytext">According to a press release, the award will be conferred on August 6, at IISc, Bengaluru by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. The award is in recognition for his outstanding contribution in the field of physical sciences and mathematics.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Prof Karunakara has developed a technology for the mitigation of Radon and Thoron for Thorium processing facilities in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and this technology has been integrated at their processing facilities.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He has published 70 research papers in journals and presented 138 research papers in conferences of national and international repute.</p>
