Kejriwal should follow Constitution: Narayanasamy

Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Monday sought to draw a parallel in the functioning of Lieutenant Governors in Delhi and Puducherry but stopped short of supporting Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in his “fight” against the Centre's interference in the functioning of his government.

Narayanasamy accused Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi of acting in an arbitrary manner by bypassing an elected government and observed that Kejriwal was protesting against the “interference” of Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.

However, Narayanasamy said that the situation in Puducherry and Delhi could not be compared as the two Union Territories were governed by different set of rules under the Constitution.

“In Puducherry, we have control over law and order, police and finance, the situation is not the same in Delhi,” Narayanasamy told DH.

He said Kejriwal should understand the constitutional provisions regarding Delhi and abide by the same.

Narayanasamy said he concurred with former Delhi chief minister Shiela Dikshit, who had said that the powers Kejriwal was seeking could be granted only through an amendment to the Constitution.
