Another ragging in Kerala: Class 11 student suffers fracture after being man handled by seniors at school

Thiruvananthapuram: Close on the heels of the brutal ragging suffered by nursing students in Kerala, a Class 11 student suffered a fracture after he was allegedly manhandled by his seniors as part of ragging at Kannur district in Kerala.

17- year-old student Muhammed Nihal of P R Memorial higher secondary school at Kolavelloor in Kannur is currently receiving treatment at the Thalassery cooperative hospital for a fracture on his hand, said the police.

The Kolavelloor police registered a case against five Class 12 students and were able to nab three of them.

All accused are 18 and above. The school authorities are also inquiring into the matter.

Nihal was allegedly manhandled by the senior students accusing him of not respecting the seniors and obeying their instructions.

There were also allegations that even as friction was prevailing in the school for sometime between Class 11 and Class 12 students over ragging, the school authorities were not able to settle it.

Minor clashes between the two classes had earlier taken place.

The issue came into the limelight in the wake of the brutal ragging suffered by first year students of the government nursing college in Kottayam from their five seniors.

There is a strong demand to invoke more sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the students accused in the Kottayam ragging incident, especially after the footage of the brutal acts became viral

Health Minister Veena George said on Friday that stringent legal action would be ensured against the accused.

Though the Congress alleged that the accused students were associated with CPM's student outfit Student's Federation of India, SFI has staunchly denied it.
